Somalia and Libya signed four memorandums of understanding to promote bilateral cooperation.

Monday 24,Febr-2025 {HMC}-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, today Monday in the Libyan capital Tripoli, met with the Prime Minister of the Government of the National Unity of the sister state of Libya, the country of Mr. Abdul Hamid Mohamed Al-Dabiba, as part of his official visit, and sought with him the strengthening of bilateral relations and developing mutual cooperation In different areas of common benefit.

Somalia and Libya signed four memorandums of understanding to promote bilateral cooperation.

These agreements include the mutual waiver of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, the formation of a joint ministerial committee, a political understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a memorandum of cooperation between the Municipality of Mogadishu and the Municipality of Tripoli.

During the meeting, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Maalem Faqi Ahmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and Mr. Taher Salem Al-Baour, the Minister in charge of the Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation with the State of Libya, signed several agreements, including the mutual waiver of entry visas for holders of diplomatic passports, as well as a memorandum of understanding To establish a framework for political consultations between the two ministries, aimed at strengthening diplomatic coordination and alignment of attitudes on matters of common interest.

A memorandum of cooperation was also signed between the municipality of Mogadishu and the municipality of Tripoli to deepen cooperation in the fields of local administration and urban development.

The parties also reached an agreement to set up a high-level joint committee to review previous agreements, explore investment opportunities, and promote economic and development cooperation between the two countries.

During the discussions, the two sides emphasized the importance of cooperation on regional issues, particularly in the Horn of Africa region, highlighting the importance of electing Somalia to the United Nations Security Council as a key opportunity to enhance regional security, stability and enhance cooperation between countries in the region.
