Mogadishu, Friday – April 25, 2025 (HMC): The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed a financial aid agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), committing $2.5 million to support Somalia’s Humanitarian Fund.
The agreement, signed on Thursday, will be in effect throughout 2025–2026, and was formalized by Waleed Al-Bahar, Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund, and Lisa Dotten, OCHA’s Director of Finance and Partnerships.
This aid is aimed at funding small-scale humanitarian projects targeting the urgent needs of over 6.9 million people affected by drought and conflict in Somalia.
This marks the fourth contribution from the Kuwait Fund to United Nations humanitarian efforts. Since 2017, Kuwait has donated nearly $4.6 million, including its most recent support to the Palestinian territories in 2024.
The Government of Kuwait has once again reaffirmed its strong commitment to global humanitarian efforts and to supporting the people of Somalia during critical times.
