Thursday 1,May 2025 {HMC} Somali Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Aden Madoobe), has suspended 20 lawmakers from attending upcoming parliamentary sessions, citing security concerns following recent unrest inside the legislature.
In a written directive issued Wednesday, Speaker Aden Madoobe instructed parliamentary staff to bar the listed members from entering the chamber until their suspension periods end.
“I hereby enact Articles 14, 16, and 28 of the House of the People’s Rules of Procedure, which authorize the Speaker to uphold parliamentary rules, maintain order, and ensure the smooth functioning of legislative and administrative affairs,” the Speaker’s letter read.
The list of suspended MPs includes:

4. Hassan Abdi Ismail (Hassan Yare)
5. Abdirizak Hassan Ahmed (Dhookir)

7. Ahmed Mahmoud Jama (Buux)
8. Ali Mohamed Sheikh (Ali Bagadi)
9. Saadaq Abdullahi Abdi
10. Mohamed Abdirahman Ahmed (Hayle)
11. Mowlid Abdi Mahmoud
12. Mohamed Ali Omar (Caananuug)
13. Faysal Ahmed Mahmoud (Wahaabi)

The move follows a violent clash inside the lower house on Wednesday, triggered by the controversial removal of MP Abdullahi Hashi Abiib. The Speaker announced Abiib’s expulsion in March, citing his absence from two consecutive sessions without excuse—an action opposition lawmakers have decried as politically motivated.
During the incident, rival blocs of lawmakers clashed on the floor of parliament, prompting intervention by parliamentary police. The chaos has drawn condemnation from civil society leaders and opposition politicians, who warned that such actions are eroding democratic norms and the reputation of Somalia’s legislative body.
