Puntland: Nearly 100 Save the Children-Supported Health Centers Set to Close.

Monday 5,may 2025 {HMC}  Puntland is reportedly close to shutting down almost 100 health facilities, due to financial constraints of the agencies donating to health initiatives.

Puntland’s Minister of Planning, Da’uud Bisinle, disclosed that 70 of the facilities, originally funded by Save the Children, will be closed.

According to Save the Children’s Country Director for Somalia, Binyam Gebru, they had to lay off around 150 staff due to financial constraints. He added that they have closed many of their offices, which restricts their ability to offer services to the most vulnerable.

Gebru added that more children would inevitably die unless donors intervene to provide adequate resources.

The crisis begins as the US government has withdrawn $170 million for humanitarian aid to Somalia.

Aid agencies working in Somalia have started closing some of their facilities which assist in saving many lives and warn the international community that declines in donations could lead to a large-scale humanitarian crisis.
