Tuesday May 13, 2025 {HMC} Somali National Army (SNA) forces, in collaboration with local clan militia, killed three AS militants in a coordinated operation on Monday in the Aalim area of Jowle district, near Harardhere town in the Mudug region.
Harardhere district commissioner Aseyr Ibrahim Mataan confirmed to local media that the joint forces successfully destroyed AS hideouts and seized several weapons during the raid.
“The bodies of the militants killed in the operation were recovered, including senior figures who held significant roles in the area,” Commissioner Mataan stated.
Among those killed was Mohamed Ali Gaaguf, identified as the AS operative for the Jawlo area. Authorities said he played a central role in coordinating the group’s operations in the region.
Additionally, the forces captured Hared Abdi Ali, a former local fighter who had defected to Al-Shabaab eight months ago. His arrest is seen as a valuable intelligence gain for ongoing operations.
Military activity has intensified in recent weeks around Harardhere district, with Somali forces targeting AS fighters entrenched in the area as part of the broader national campaign to eliminate the group’s presence in central Somalia.
