Somali Defense Minister: Solution Found to AS Bombings.

Monday 2 June 2025 {HMC} The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, today inaugurated the National Conference on Weapons, Ammunition and IED Prevention in Mogadishu.

The conference, organized by the National Security Office, will last for two days, focusing on weapons, ammunition and IED prevention in Mogadishu.

The conference was attended by security agencies at the federal, state and international levels that support the Federal Government of Somalia in the field of security and prevention of illegal weapons and ammunition.

The Minister of Defense, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, the Deputy Minister of Internal Security, Lieutenant General Sulub Ahmed Firin, the National Security Advisor and other officials who spoke at the conference unanimously emphasized the importance of the Federal Government and the country’s governments working together to develop the 2025-2030 strategic plan.

“The Minister stated that the implementation of the Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) Strategy 2025–2030 is not an option, but a national obligation necessary to maintain the security and stability of the country.

He commended the progress made in the digital system for registering weapons and marking ammunition, and also expressed gratitude to international organizations and friendly governments that have supported the efforts of the Ministry of Defense,” said a statement from the Somali Ministry of Defense.

All federal and state authorities unanimously agreed to strengthen efforts to prevent illegal weapons and ammunition and improvised explosive devices.

In conclusion, the Somali Ministry of Defense stated that it is fully committed to implementing the operational and behavioral changes required by this strategy and to working closely with the Command and Control Directorate (CMD), the National Security Office (NSO), and international partners.
