Somali FM Discusses Strengthening Ties with Egyptian Counterpart at Aswan Forum.

Monday, Oct 20, 2025 {HMC} The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met on Monday with his Egyptian counterpart, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, on the sidelines of the Fifth Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including security, trade, investment, health, and development. Both ministers emphasized their shared commitment to deepening ties and advancing mutual interests.

In a significant step toward enhancing economic relations, the two sides agreed to convene the Second Somalia–Egypt Business Forum soon to boost trade and investment opportunities between the two brotherly countries.

Discussions also addressed the deployment of Egyptian forces under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

During the meeting, Minister Abdisalam expressed Somalia’s gratitude for Egypt’s longstanding support and reaffirmed Mogadishu’s commitment to strengthening cooperation based on shared values and historical bonds.

For his part, Minister Abdelatty commended the positive momentum in Egypt–Somalia relations, reiterating Egypt’s dedication to advancing a strategic partnership that supports stability and prosperity in the Horn of Africa. He welcomed progress toward Egypt’s participation in AUSSOM and underscored the importance of sustainable international funding to ensure the mission’s success.

The Egyptian foreign minister also reaffirmed Cairo’s continued support for Somalia’s institution-building, peacebuilding, and reconciliation efforts, while urging greater unity among Somali leaders in addressing current security challenges.

Both sides agreed on the need for intensified cooperation in counterterrorism and the fight against extremism, stressing that regional peace and stability depend on joint action and solidarity.

The ministers concluded by pledging to maintain close coordination at the regional and international levels to address common challenges and promote peace, development, and stability across the Horn of Africa.
