Wednesday 22, October 2025 {HMC} The Somali National Army (SNA) killed at least 10 al-Shabaab militants in a military operation conducted Tuesday night near the Hudur district of the Bakool region, according to government officials.
The forces carried out the operation about eight kilometers from Hudur town, where intelligence indicated the group was planning an attack on the district.
“The Somali National Army, after receiving information about the enemy’s movements, quickly thwarted the plot by the militants. A brief battle took place, causing heavy losses to the group. The forces killed more than 10 plotters,” the government statement said.
The commander of the SNA’s 60th Division, Major General Mohamed Yaris, told state media that troops also seized several weapons, including BKM heavy machine guns and AK-47 rifles.
The commander added that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate al-Shabaab from the region, vowing that the army would continue operations against the militant group.
Al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency against Somalia’s federal government for more than 15 years, remains active in parts of southern and central Somalia despite recent military pressure.
