Thursday, 8 August 2024 {HMC} National Security Adviser to the President of Somalia, Hussein Maalin, provided details on the new operation set to replace ATMIS.
“The new AUSSOM mission was initiated at the request of the Federal Government of Somalia following the conclusion of ATMIS. This mission will be supported by the National Army for a short period, with a limited number of troops involved.”
Maalin Hussein, the National Security Adviser to the President, added that this operation is intended to be the final phase in ending the long-standing peacekeeping forces in Somalia.
This statement from the Government of Somalia follows the official announcement of the new peacekeeping mission, named AUSSOM, which was made yesterday.
