Tuesday July 15,2025 {HMC} Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international partners, killed 15 al-Shabaab militants, including several field commanders, in a targeted military operation near Gayacad junction, close to the Mabaax area in the Hiiraan region.
The agency said the operation, which took place on Saturday, also wounded five other militants. The intelligence-led raid was carried out in three successive phases and targeted a group of militants mobilized from Adan Yabal and Ceel Cali Ahmed in Middle Shabelle.
The militants were reportedly en route to reinforce al-Shabaab fighters trapped in parts of Hiiraan when they were intercepted. Despite efforts to evade detection by hiding in remote bushland, the operation successfully neutralized the group.
Security officials confirmed that all three waves of the operation met their objectives, though a number of militants escaped during the raids. A manhunt is underway to locate the fleeing fighters.
NISA reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling al-Shabaab’s operational networks and praised the ongoing support from international allies in Somalia’s counterterrorism efforts.
