Sunday 27, July 2025 {HMC} The reports reaching us in Makhaas district of Hiraan region say that Al-Shabaab militants have entered the town, after a battle that lasted for several hours between the government forces and the Maawis on one side and the Al-Shabaab group.
The fighting that started in the early hours of this morning, the group attacked the positions of the cooperating forces in the airport of that city with suicide bombings.
Preliminary reports say that today’s battle between Al-Shabaab and Mahaas is the most destructive that has happened there in recent years.
The town of Mahaas in the Hiran region was one of the strategic bases of the Al-Maawi forces and the armed forces fighting against the al-Shabaab group, and President Hassan Sheikh has visited there several times.
There is still no news from the Federal Government of Somalia regarding the takeover of Mahaas district in Hiran region, which was the main command in recent times in the organization of the war against the Al-Shabaab group.
