Djibouti FM Abdikadir Hussein Omar Hails AUSSOM on First Somalia Visit

Friday 29-Aug 2025 {HMC} Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister, H.E. Abdikadir Hussein Omar, made his maiden visit to Somalia, praising AUSSOM for its immense contribution to peace & stability.

In Mogadishu, the Minister visited the AUSSOM HQ, where Deputy SRCC Amb. Mouktar Osman Karie and senior officials briefed him on the mission’s objectives and progress.

He later traveled to Beletweyne, where he was welcomed by Hirshabelle leaders and AUSSOM Sector 4 Commander Abdirahman Royale Hared. The Minister met with local authorities & AUSSOM leaders to discuss the region’s security & stabilisation efforts.

Amb. Karie said the Minister’s visit to the forces was a morale booster, adding that Djibouti is a key partner and force contributor to AUSSOM and has played an important role in Somalia’s stabilisation.

Minister Omar reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to supporting peace in Somalia, praising AUSSOM peacekeepers for their sacrifice.

“We came to visit our troops and to witness the important work AUSSOM is doing to safeguard communities,” he said, conveying greetings from President Ismail Omar Gueleh and Djibouti’s military leadership.

Hirshabelle’s Minister of Interior, Abdirahman Dahir Gure thanked the delegation for the visit and lauded AUSSOM’s continued collaboration with Somali forces in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The delegation included Somalia’s Ambassador to Djibouti Salad Ali Jelle, Djibouti’s Ambassador to Somalia Mohamed Ibrahim Yusuf, Senior Advisor Amb. Mohamed Idriss, and senior civilian and military officials.
