Friday, Oct 2025 {HMC} The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) successfully conducted a one-day meeting in Baidoa on Monday, October 20, 2025, as part of its Youth Peace Club on Social Media initiative.
The session brought together 20 young men and women, who received training and awareness on how youth-led community peace clubs can promote harmony and stability through digital engagement.
The establishment of the Youth Peace Club aims to bring together a united network of young people dedicated to advancing peace within their communities—contributing to sustainable development and lasting stability across Somalia.
During the meeting, participants discussed strategies to promote peace narratives online and identified the social media platforms they will use to share positive, peace-oriented messages.
The session also marked the first gathering of the youth-led Peace Club in Baidoa, providing a space for participants to present their ideas and priorities for promoting peaceful coexistence.
In a symbolic expression of their commitment, the youth selected — a creative adaptation of the title of a Somali song “Nabadaa Naas la nuugo leh,” which literally translates to “Peace is like a breast to be suckled.” Figuratively, it means that peace is nurturing and life-sustaining, providing comfort, nourishment, and growth, much like a mother’s milk does for her child.
This initiative of broader peacebuilding and youth engagement programs; is part of a series of capacity-building activities funded by the EU, supported by BBC Media Action, and implemented by FESOJ.
