Sunday 8 March 2026 {HMC} The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweis Jamac, met today with Mr. Lionel Laurens, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representative in Somalia, at the ministry’s headquarters.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Information and UNDP, particularly on development projects related to media capacity building, public awareness, peacebuilding, countering terrorism, and promoting Somali culture and tourism. Both sides also emphasized expanding programs that support independent media, civic engagement, and the role of media in advancing social development and peace.
The Minister thanked UNDP for its ongoing support for Somalia’s development initiatives, highlighting efforts to enhance media capacity and reinforce government institutions.
The meeting was attended by UNDP Deputy Director for Inclusive Politics, Mr. Maxamed Hadi, and Helene Apollis, Head of the Bilan Media Strengthening Project, while the Somali side included the Director of Media Strategy, Director of Culture, and Director of Federal-State Relations.
