Prime Minister Appoints Interim Leader for Southwest State to Ensure Stability

Thursday  2 April  2026 {HMC}Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has issued a decree appointing an interim leader to oversee the administration of Southwest State, in a move aimed at ensuring continuity and political stability.

Under the decree, Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid has been tasked with temporarily leading the regional administration, effective from April 1.

The appointment is intended to maintain the smooth functioning of government operations in Southwest State, safeguard political stability, and ensure the provision of essential public services during the transitional period.

According to the Prime Minister’s office, the interim administration will focus on continuing key government services, accelerating consultations on the planned one-person, one-vote electoral process, and preparing and implementing a constitutional transition framework.
