Thusday 12 Feb 2026 {HMC} The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) congratulates the Federal Republic of Somalia on its election as a Member of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) for the 2026–2028 term.
“This significant diplomatic milestone is a moment of great pride for Somalia and reflects the growing recognition of the country’s progress, leadership, and constructive engagement within the African Union. AUSSOM extends its sincere congratulations to H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and to the people of Somalia on this important achievement,” said Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM.
“Somalia’s election to the Peace and Security Council signals renewed continental confidence in its role and increasing contribution to Africa’s peace and security agenda. As a nation that has made notable strides in stabilization, state-building, and security sector reform, Somalia brings valuable experience, resilience, and perspective to the Council’s deliberations,” Amb. Diene added.
“AUSSOM reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia in advancing peace, security, and stability, in line with the shared objectives of the African Union and the aspirations of the Somali people.”
