Thursday 18 December , 2025 (HMC) The 161st Unit of the Danab Commandos, operating in close coordination with the Armored Vehicle Unit (MU), executed a series of planned security operations today across the Lower Shabelle region. The joint forces targeted the strategic areas of Basro, Baqdaad, Janbaluul, and several surrounding villages within the Afgooye District to dismantle active terrorist networks.
The operation commenced in Basro, where the special forces uncovered a complex network of tunnels and concealed bunkers utilized by the Khawarij militants as hideouts. The troops successfully exposed and neutralized these positions after the insurgents fled the area, unable to withstand the pressure and superior tactical capability of the advancing Danab forces.
Following the clearance of Basro, the units advanced into Baqdaad, a location that had previously served as a strategic stronghold for the terror group. The military has now fully secured the area, ensuring the safety of the local population and restoring stability to the district.
Extending the mission to Janbaluul, the Danab forces conducted extensive sweep operations to track down remnants of the terrorist cell attempting to hide in the dense bush. The primary objective of this offensive is to destroy militant sanctuaries, completely halt their movements within the region, and guarantee long-term security for the residents of Lower Shabelle.
This successful operation highlights the bravery and high-level professional skill of the Danab Commandos, reaffirming their commitment to defending the Somali people and eradicating the threat of terrorism from the nation.
