Speaking to the media, Interior Minister Oogle said the conference will run for four days, from December 17 to December 20.
He said the meeting will focus on finalizing the structure of the Somali Future Council and assessing the political transition currently underway in the country.
For his part, Koofi described the Kismayo conference as timely, given Somalia’s current political challenges.
“Today I arrived in Kismayo, where the conference to finalize the establishment of the Somali Future Council will soon open,” Koofi said. “Important issues related to the difficult situation the country is facing will be discussed.”
He thanked the Jubbaland administration and residents of Kismayo for hosting the conference.
Security has been tightened across Kismayo ahead of the event, with authorities expecting the arrival of additional opposition figures in the coming hours, including former senior federal government officials.
Opposition members have described the Kismayo conference as a historic opportunity to consolidate views following an extended period of consultations and internal discussions.
Participants are expected to hold both open and closed-door sessions addressing Somalia’s political direction, governance challenges, and perspectives on ongoing political changes, particularly electoral issues.
Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madoobe) has hosted opposition leaders in Kismayo as the conference takes place amid heightened political debate and calls for a unified opposition platform on national matters.
