President Hassan Sheikh: Heroes of the Somali National Army Have Saved 20 Million Somalis

Sunday 12 April 2026 {HMC}  The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has extended congratulations to all ranks of the Somali National Army (SNA) and their families during the 66th anniversary of its founding.

Speaking at the commemorative event, the President praised the army’s role in defending the country and safeguarding civilians, noting that the forces also play a key role in humanitarian response and rescuing affected communities.

“Heroes of the Somali National Army have saved 20 million Somalis. They do not only defend with weapons, but also provide assistance. The achievements they have made today will be written in history. Congratulations,” he said.

He added that the armed forces have made significant progress, stressing that no nation can be built without a strong military, and that individual misconduct should not define the entire force.

Minister of Defence Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, who attended the event, said the army has reached a high level of capability and achieved tangible successes in operations, including reopening the road linking Mogadishu and Baidoa.

Meanwhile, Somali National Army Commander Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud said the forces are defined by resilience and courage, describing the anniversary as a moment of pride.

Other officials attending the ceremony also extended congratulations, commending the army’s achievements in protecting the country and its people.
