Friday 20 March 2026 {HMC}The Somali Ambassador to Sweden, Abdikarin Ahmed Mohamed, has presented his credentials to the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, following a formal ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki.
The ceremony marked a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Somalia and Finland, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across key sectors.
During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation between the two governments, particularly in social development sectors and areas of mutual interest.
The engagement reflects Somalia’s ongoing efforts to broaden its international partnerships and strengthen diplomatic representation across Europe.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Abdikarin Ahmed Mohamed—who will oversee Somalia’s diplomatic missions in both Finland and Sweden—was welcomed at the Somaliliitto headquarters by members of the Somali Community Unity Organization.
The gathering brought together traditional elders, youth, intellectuals, and representatives from local councils in Helsinki and Vantaa, highlighting the strong role of the Somali diaspora in fostering bilateral relations.
The appointment of the Somali Ambassador to Finland is seen as a new beginning for the Somali community, expected to facilitate stronger engagement between the embassy and citizens, while addressing challenges previously faced by Somalis residing in the country.
