Somali FM says 167 citizens repatriated from Libya

Mogadishu, 16, Dec 2025 {HMC} The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, announced on Monday that 167 Somali citizens were evacuated from Libya through a voluntary repatriation initiative.

The returnees included 151 individuals who arrived in the capital, Mogadishu, while a further 16 were transported to Hargeisa.

Minister Abdisalam welcomed the safe return of the citizens and expressed appreciation to the European Union for funding the operation and to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for facilitating the process.

He described the return as a positive step for those affected by difficult migration circumstances.

The minister also called on national security institutions to strengthen measures aimed at preventing irregular migration, highlighting the serious risks such journeys pose to citizens’ lives.
