Saturday 14 Feb 2026 {HMC}  The Federal Republic of Somalia formally acceded to the African Peer Review Mechanism during the 35th Ordinary Session of the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government.

The Memorandum of Understanding on accession was signed by H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, marking a significant milestone in Somalia’s governance reform journey and reaffirming the country’s commitment at the highest level of state leadership.

By joining the APRM, a voluntary self-monitoring mechanism of the African Union, Somalia reinforces its dedication to democratic governance, institutional accountability, sound economic management, and inclusive socio-economic development.

This accession further strengthens Somalia’s role within the African Union framework and underscores its resolve to consolidate peace, deepen reforms, and advance sustainable development in line with Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
