Khamiis, 19 Juun 2025 {HMC} The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation successfully evacuated nine Somali citizens from Algeria on Wednesday to prevent illegal migration and rescue them from perishing at sea.
The nine, including four young women, were received at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu by Dr. Mohamed Hussein Gaas, Director of the Department of Diaspora Affairs at the Ministry.
In remarks following their arrival, Dr. Gaas acknowledged the valuable support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and reaffirmed the Federal Government of Somalia’s dedication to safeguarding its youth from the risks associated with illegal migration.
This follows the ministry’s June 12 evacuation of three Somali fishermen from the Maldives after they were lost in the Indian Ocean in December 2024.
