Friday July 18, 2025 {HMC} – The mid-term review meeting of the first Somalia-Ethiopia Joint Ministerial Commission began today in Addis Ababa, bringing together senior officials from both sides to evaluate progress and chart the way forward in bilateral cooperation.
In his opening remarks, Amb. Zerihun Abebe, Director General for African Affairs at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the meeting offers an opportunity to strengthen ties across key sectors including trade, education, health, labor and skills, and civil aviation.
In return, Mohamed Isack Ibrahim (Fatiir), Director General for East African Community Affairs at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized the importance of deepening people-to-people relations. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to addressing common challenges in security and development.
The meeting is expected to cover bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues of shared concern, while identifying new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
