Wednesday August 6, 2025 {HMC} Somali State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, hosted a dinner on Monday for eight newly accredited ambassadors, shortly after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi received their credentials.

Speaking at the event, the State Minister highlighted Somalia’s growing international engagement, particularly its progress as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with the countries represented by the newly appointed ambassadors.

“Somalia’s recovery has been strengthened by the continued support of the international community, and we are grateful for the commitment of our friends, allies, and sisterly nations,” Omar said.

He called on countries to reopen their embassies in Mogadishu and deepen diplomatic ties, emphasizing that “a stronger international presence in the capital will reflect our shared commitment to stability and cooperation.”

The ambassadors who presented their credentials last week represent South Korea, Iraq, Côte d’Ivoire, Venezuela, Mexico, Mauritania, Ghana, and Ethiopia.

The State Minister thanked the ambassadors for their attendance and wished them success in their diplomatic missions in Somalia.
