Somalia’s Intelligence Agency killed senior As operative in Lower Shabelle region

Thursday 15 jun 2026 {HMC} The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said it carried out a planned security operation on Wednesday on the outskirts of Afgooye district in the Lower Shabelle region, killing a senior member of the as militant group.

In a statement, NISA said the man killed was responsible for preparing and planting landmines targeting security forces and civilians in the area.

The agency described the operation as a targeted and carefully planned mission aimed at neutralizing six individuals considered a threat to the security of Afgooye district and surrounding areas. Only one militant was confirmed killed during the operation, according to the statement.

“The operation was executed with precision, resulting in the elimination of the suspect and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle,” NISA said.

NISA did not disclose the identity of the man killed, nor did it provide information on additional casualties during the operation.

The agency added that operations against as will continue until security is fully restored across the country.
