“Thank God, we were able to thwart the Khawarij’s plot to harm civilians. Our forces intercepted 10 dangerous landmines that were intended to be used against the people of Mogadishu,” Lt. Col. Munye said.
The commander thanked residents of the Number 50 area for providing timely information that helped security forces prevent the planned attack.
The seizure comes as Somali government forces have significantly tightened security in Mogadishu, ahead of the upcoming local council elections.
Security agencies have also increased checkpoints and patrols along key roads and entry points into the capital in an effort to prevent potential attacks and ensure public safety.
