Monday-December-25-2023-{HMC} The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed Juma Al-Rumaysi, met with the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), Mohamud Ma’allin Abdulle, on Sunday at the SoDMA headquarters in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on the UAE’s role in assisting the Somali government and people in coping with the devastating floods that have affected several regions of the country in the past months. The floods have displaced thousands of people, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted livelihoods.
The Ambassador expressed his solidarity with the Somali people and praised the efforts of SoDMA in coordinating the humanitarian response. He also announced that the UAE will increase its support for the flood relief and recovery, and will contribute to the rebuilding of the bridges that were destroyed by the floods in some cities.
The Commissioner thanked the Ambassador for the UAE’s generous and timely assistance, and highlighted the importance of the bridge reconstruction project for restoring the mobility and connectivity of the affected communities. He also expressed his hope for further cooperation and partnership between Somalia and the UAE in various fields.
The UAE is one of the main donors and partners of Somalia, providing humanitarian, development, and security assistance to the country. The UAE has also been actively involved in the regional and international efforts to promote peace and stability in Somalia.
