Somali Salvation Forum, President Mohamud, discuss political reform and security

Thursday 26,June 2025 {HMC} The Somali Salvation Forum held a high-level meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia on Wednesday to discuss national politics, including constitutional reform, elections, and the fight against terrorism.

Forum spokesperson Dahir Mohamud Gelle said the discussions were part of a broader effort to resolve ongoing political tensions and move Somalia closer to democratic stability.

“The meeting’s agenda covered key national priorities such as the constitution, electoral reform, and security. Another round of discussions between the Forum and government leaders is planned for next month to help resolve the current political impasse,” Gelle said.
He added that the Somali Salvation Forum has taken the initiative to restore political dialogue and has committed to engaging with the leaders of Puntland and Jubaland—two federal member states that have distanced themselves from recent government-led consultations.

The meeting coincided with a larger National Consultation Forum convened by President Mohamud, which brought together former presidents, prime ministers, speakers of parliament, and other national figures.

According to the Office of the President, the forum focused on three key priorities: completing the constitutional review process, establishing a direct electoral system, and strengthening counterterrorism efforts.

The Somali Salvation Forum’s participation marks a renewed effort to bridge political divides and promote inclusive dialogue among federal and regional leaders.
