Friday 26, Sep 2025 {HMC} US President Donald J. Trump has renewed his verbal attacks on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, saying he had discussed with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud the possibility of repatriating Ilhan Omar to her country of origin.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “You know, I met with the president of Somalia, and I suggested to him if he wanted to take her [Ilhan Omar],” adding that the Somali president responded, “He didn’t want to.”
Trump’s remarks were met with laughter and applause from US Vice President J.D. Vance and other members of the Trump administration who were present at the time, which sparked a wide-ranging reaction from the public and politicians in the US.
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a Muslim woman of Somali origin who represents the state of Minnesota, reacted angrily to the remarks, calling them false and defamatory.
In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, she said, “He previously denied that Somalia has a president, and now he is creating another lie. President Trump is a lying idiot whose shameful statements cannot be believed.”
Ilhan Omar has repeatedly accused Trump of being racist, and specifically targeting black women, Muslims, and people from other ethnic minorities.
