Demand pay from those molizing you to attend Ruto rallies: Gachagua tells Mt Kenya bloc.
Sunday 30,March 2025 {HMC} Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Mt. Kenya residents to demand hefty payments from mobilizers ahead of President William Ruto’s planned tour, arguing that the visit is politically motivated.
Speaking on Saturday at the Consecration and Installation Ceremony of Rev. Harrison Munyua at Redeemed Church in Naivasha, Nakuru County, Gachagua claimed that Ruto’s visit would bring no tangible benefits to the region and urged locals to take advantage of the money offered for mobilization.
He advised them to ensure they are well compensated for attending the events.
“If you are going to listen to lies, ensure you get a good price for it. Do not accept little money to be deceived. President Ruto has brought money because we elected him for free,” he said.
His remarks come as President Ruto plans to visit the Mt. Kenya region amid aggresive manuvour to lock the UDA leader out of the region following his impeachment impeachment.
Gachagua also criticized Chief of Defense Forces General Charles Kahariri for his recent warning against the “Ruto Must Go” chants, cautioning the military against interfering in political affairs.
He insisted that the military should stay out of politics and urged Kahariri to return to the barracks.
He further defended the slogan, arguing that it was a legitimate rallying call ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The former Deputy President also criticized the government for allegedly using the police to suppress political dissent.
He urged officers not to allow themselves to be manipulated, emphasizing that they face the same economic struggles as ordinary Kenyans.
Fears mount over resurgence of as in Somalia as foreign support ebbs
Sunday 30,March 2025 {HMC} Somalia’s Al-Shabaab jihadist militia shows signs of resurgence after making gains in strategic regions and coming close to assassinating the president with a roadside bomb last week.
The al-Qaeda-linked jihadist group was on the defensive in 2022 and 2023 after a concerted military push by the government and its international partners.
But analysts say those gains are being reversed at a time when support from the United States and African Union is looking increasingly shaky.
The group has seized key locations in Middle and Lower Shabelle, coastal regions on either side of the capital Mogadishu.
And a bomb blast that narrowly missed the convoy of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on March 18 showed that Al-Shabaab again poses a significant risk in the capital itself.
On Wednesday, Somali officials said the group had taken control of the centre of a key town in Middle Shabelle, Masaajid Cali Gaduud.
That came just a day after the president had travelled to the region in a high-profile bid to push back the extremists.
“There were explosions and heavy gunfire this morning,” Abdulkadi Hassan, resident of a nearby village, said by phone.
“The Somali government forces and local community militias have retreated from the town and Al-Shabaab are now in control.”
Analyst Matt Bryden, co-founder of research group Sahan and an expert on the conflict, said this was typical of recent clashes.
He said the government had lost strategic choke-points, including three of four bridges in Lower Shabelle.
“We see the evidence of an army in disarray and in retreat,” Bryden added.
He said the government was enlisting clan militias, police and prison guards, “throwing everything it has into the war effort”.
“People in Mogadishu also are beginning to fear the government is not capable of securing the city and that there is a chance of Al-Shabaab fully encircling or possibly even at one stage overrunning the city,” said Bryden.
The president has remained defiant, establishing a temporary headquarters in Cadale, about 220 kilometres north of Mogadishu.
“The war will not stop, we are not coming back from where we are now, and we will attain the victory we are seeking,” Mohamud told troops gathered at nearby Adale earlier this week.
However, the government faces the threat of reduced international support.
African Union-led forces began supporting the Somali government in 2007, eventually becoming the largest multilateral peacekeeping force in the world with more than 20,000 troops at its peak.
Although renewed under a new name, the AU Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in January, Washington has yet to confirm its crucial financial contribution.
“Security assistance for the government is being cut, particularly the American assistance, but probably European contributions will shrink as well,” said Bryden.
“The combination of these factors raises the possibility that from July, but possibly even sooner, the balance of forces is going to shift increasingly towards Al-Shabaab,” he said.
Other analysts say Al-Shabaab is still far from threatening the capital, and its advances come from the government taking its eye off the ball.
“The government’s been more focused on politics, on other issues,” said Omar Mahmood of International Crisis Group.
He said Al-Shabaab had been exploiting local clan grievances in Middle Shabelle, but also a broader uncertainty around the president’s struggles to introduce direct elections for the first time.
“The country is not united right now … and part of this has to do with politics around the constitution and electoral plans that the government is trying to institute,” said Mahmood.
“Shabaab probably saw this as an opportune time to strike … But this is a long-standing war. I see it as closer to a stalemate than anything else.
“I don’t see this narrative where there’s this march towards Mogadishu right now,” he said.
US airstrike against Islamic State kills multiple ISIS militants in Puntland.
Sunday 30,March 2025 {HMC} The United States military conducted an airstrike on March 29 targeting Islamic State (ISIS) militants in northern Somalia, killing multiple operatives, according to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The strike carried out in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, took place southeast of Bosaso in the Puntland region. While the exact number of casualties remains unspecified, AFRICOM said its initial assessment indicates that multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives were killed and no civilians were harmed.
“AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade ISIS-Somalia’s ability to plan and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, our forces, and our civilians abroad,” the statement read.
ISIS-Somalia, an offshoot of the Islamic State group, has operated primarily in the rugged mountains of Puntland. Though smaller than Al-Shabaab, the group has been responsible for targeted assassinations and extortion, particularly in and around Bosaso.
Somaliland rejects Somalia offer of key port to US.
Sunday 30,March 2025 {HMC} Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland has rejected an attempt by the central government to give the US exclusive control of a port and airbase in Berbera.
The city lies on the strategic Gulf of Aden, on the northern coast of Somaliland. The territory, which declared independence in 1991 as Somalia descended into civil war, says the facilities are not Mogadishu’s to give away.
In a letter to US President Donald Trump, seen by Reuters news agency, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also offered port and airbase within Somalia, saying all four would strengthen US security operations.
Somaliland’s Foreign Affairs Minister Abdirahman Dahir Aden dismissed the move as “desperate”.
Signals given before Trump began his second term have given Somalilanders hope that the US may become the world’s first country to recognise the self-declared republic, which has functioned as a de facto state for nearly 34 years.
“There is nothing they can do to stop the upcoming recognition of Somaliland,” Mr Adan posted on X in response to the letter.
Somaliland’s recently expanded port in Berbera is run by DP World from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – a key US ally.
“The USA is not stupid. They know who they need to deal with when it comes to Berbera port,” the minister told Reuters.
The US has long played a pivotal role in helping Somalia fight Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group by providing intelligence and air strikes.
Al-Shabab, which controls swathes of territory in southern and central Somalia, is regarded as al-Qaeda’s most successful affiliate.
Observers say Mogadishu fears that Trump will reduce US support, as he did during his first term.
In December, the Somali government signed a $600,000 (£492,000) a year deal with a top Washington lobbying firm for advice on US-Somalia relations.
The letter to Trump, which Reuters says is dated 16 March, explains how exclusive control of the offered airbases and ports could help the US counter the influence of other international players in the Horn of Africa – a likely reference to China and Russia.
“These strategically positioned assets provide an opportunity to bolster American engagement in the region… while preventing external competitors from establishing a presence in this critical corridor,” it said.
But the federal set-up of Somalia may also scupper President Mohamud’s offer of the port of Bosaso, which is located in the semi-autonomous north-eastern region of Puntland.
Officials there have yet to comment on the letter, but Somalia’s Garowe Online publication says that if the offer was made without consulting them. relations between Puntland and Mogadishu may be further strained.
The second airbase mentioned is at Baledogle, north-west of the capital, where US soldiers already have a presence training Somali forces to fight al-Shabab.
It is not the first time a port in Somaliland has been a source of dispute.
Last year, Turkey stepped in to end a feud that threatened to escalate into a regional conflict after landlocked Ethiopia signed a maritime deal with Somaliland to build a port there.
Somalia responded by calling the move an “act of aggression” as it regards Somaliland as part of its territory.

Burhan oo jeediyay khudbaddiisii ugu horreysay ee telefishinka tan iyo markii milaterigu dib u qabsaday caasimadda Khartoum toddobaadkan, ayaa sheegay in dhammaadka dagaalka burburka ba’an u keenay dalka ee socday ku dhowaad laba sano uu suurtagal noqon karo “haddii maleeshiyadu hubka dhigto.”
Wuxuu meesha ka saaray suurtagalnimada wadahadal lala yeesho kooxda Imaaraadku taageeraan ee RSF, isagoo ballan qaaday in dagaalyahannada ugu dambeeya ee kooxdaas la baacsan doono.
“Ma cafin doonno, mana la heshiin doonno, mana wadahadli doonno,” ayuu yiri Burhan, isagoo intaa ku daray in guusha la gaarayo keliya marka “kacaanigii ugu dambeeyay laga ciribtiro gees walba oo Suudaan ah.”
Khudbadda Burhan waxay timid maalmo yar uun kaddib markii uu si guul ah ugu soo laabtay qasriga madaxtooyada oo gacanta RSF ku jiray tan iyo markii dagaalku qarxay ku dhowaad laba sano kahor.
Burhan oo kasoo degay diyaarad milatari, ayaa dhulka u jilba joogsaday si uu u dhunkado dhulka, kaddibna gacan taagay isagoo kor u haya, kahor inta uusan albaabbada madaxtooyada ka galin.
Milateriga oo muddadii 18-ka bilood ahayd ee lasoo dhaafay la kulmay khasaaro culus, ayaa billaabay weerar xooggan bishii November ee sanadkii hore, kaas oo ay kusoo siqeen bartamaha Suudaan una ruqaansadeen caasimadda.
Toddobaadkii hore, ciidamada ayaa guul degdeg ah ka gaaray Khartoum, iyagoo dib ula wareegay qasriga madaxtooyada, garoonka diyaaradaha, iyo xarumo kale oo istiraatiiji ah.
RSF ayaa dib u gurtay, inkastoo hoggaankeeda uu weli ku adkeysanayo mowqifkooda, iyagoo ku dhawaaqay in aysan marnaba is dhiibayn.
Saacado kaddib markii Burhan dib ugu laabtay qasriga madaxtooyada, RSF waxay shaacisay “iskaashi ciidan” ay la galeen garab ka tirsan Dhaqdhaqaaqa Xoreynta Dadka Suudaan (SPLM-N), oo maamula qaybo ka mid ah gobollada Kordofan Koonfureed iyo Blue Nile ee koonfurta dalka.
SPLM-N ayaa horay ula dagaallantay labada dhinac, kahor inta aysan bishii hore heshiis siyaasadeed la saxiixan RSF si ay u dhisaan dowlad kale oo mucaarad ah.
Fiidnimadii Khamiista, goobjoogayaal ku sugan magaalada Damazin ee gobolka Blue Nile ayaa sheegay in garoonka diyaaradaha iyo biyo-xireenka Roseires, oo ku dhow magaalada, ay markii ugu horreysay weerar dhanka diyaaradaha aan duuliyaha lahayn (drones) ah kala kulmeen RSF iyo xulafadooda tan iyo bilowgii dagaalka.
Milaterigu ayaa markii dambe sheegay inay soo rideen diyaaradaha drones-ka ee RSF.
Sabtidii, RSF waxay sheegtay inay la wareegeen saldhig milatari oo qiyaastii 140 km u jira Damazin.
Dagaalku wuxuu burburiyay Suudaan, isagoo dilay tobanaan kun oo qof, barakiciyay in ka badan 12 milyan oo qof.
Hadda, dalka waxaa si dhab ah loogu kala qaybsamay laba dhinac: milaterigu wuxuu gacanta ku hayaa waqooyiga iyo bariga, halka RSF ay maamusho inta badan Darfur ee galbeedka iyo qaybo badan oo ka mid ah koonfurta dalka.
