Thursday 12,Dec 2024 {HMC} The Somalia team has revived their title hopes in the Boys category at the on-going Zonal CAF African Schools Football Championship in Uganda.
After kick starting their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Uganda and a draw against Tanzania on Tuesday, the Somalia team defeated Rwanda 2-1 in a tough match played today at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Zakariya Osman gave the Somalia team the lead, and Olivier Nshimiyimana leveled matters. But the Somalia team did not give up and piled lots of pressure to earn a penalty that skipper Bashir Hassan converted.
The win takes Somalia to second place with 4 points, behind Uganda (6 points) who only managed goalless draws against Tanzania and Burundi in matches played on Wednesday.
“We are hungry and will be determined to beat Burundi on Thursday so that we win the Cup,” said Somalia’s Captain Bashir Hassan. The two matches in the Boys category between Somalia and Burundi, and Tanzania against Rwanda will decide which team wins the Cup. Uganda who top the log have played all their 4 matches and can only keep their fingers crossed.
In the Girls category Uganda and Tanzania settled for a goalless draw, while Burundi humbled Rwanda 3-0. Erica Iradukunda netted a brace, while Emelyne Shurwenylmana Emelyne was also on target for the third placed Burundi team that has collected 3 points. Tanzania and Uganda each have 4 points going into the final day on Thursday.
Rwanda will face Uganda, while table leaders Tanzania battle Burundi in the final Girls’ matches to be played on Thursday.

Mustaf Duhulow appointed director general of Somalia’s immigration agency amid calls for reform
Thursday 12,Dec, 2024 {HMC} Veteran Somali lawmaker Mustaf Ali Duhulow has been appointed Director General of the Immigration and Naturalization Agency. The decision was announced Thursday during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
The Council of Ministers, acting on a recommendation from the Ministry of Internal Security, unanimously approved Duhulow’s nomination. “The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia has endorsed the Ministry of Internal Security’s proposal to appoint Mustaf Sheikh Ali Duhulow as the Director General of the Immigration and Naturalization Agency,” the official statement read.
Duhulow has been a member of parliament since the Mbagathi peace talks in the early 2000s. He has held key ministerial roles in both transitional and official Somali governments, including Minister of Information from January 2014 to January 2015 under Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed.
His predecessor, Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, recently met with agency staff, urging them to improve passport issuance services and prioritize citizens’ needs, particularly those of vulnerable groups.
The Immigration and Naturalization Agency is central to Somalia’s administrative framework, managing passport issuance and citizenship documentation. The department has faced scrutiny from the Attorney General’s office after he uncovered a multi-million dollar embezzlement scheme. These challenges are compounded by persistent issues such as prolonged processing times and limited access to services for marginalized communities, underscoring the urgent need for reform.
The leadership change comes as Somalia seeks to rebuild trust in its institutions and deliver on promises of improved governance.
Duhulow’s appointment could signal a push for reforms to streamline services, curb corruption and address inefficiencies. His immediate priorities include reducing bureaucratic hurdles, enhancing customer service, and modernizing operations to meet the growing demand for travel documentation.

Somalia accuses Jubbaland of AS collaboration in Raas Kambooni attack
Thursday 12,Dec, 2024 {HMC} Somalia’s Federal Government has accused Jubbaland’s administration of collaborating with AS militants in a recent attack on government forces in Raas Kambooni, a strategic coastal area in Lower Jubba. The incident, which forced Somali National Army (SNA) troops to withdraw, has further strained Mogadishu’s relations with the semi-autonomous region.
Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu, Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala alleged that Jubbaland troops coordinated with AS militants in carrying out the operation. According to government intelligence, Jubbaland military vehicles and forces passed through areas controlled by Al-Shabaab before launching the assault.
“There is clear evidence that Al-Shabaab played a consequential role in the attack on government forces. This demonstrates the close relationship between Ahmed Madobe and AS ,” Al-Adala said, referring to the leader of the Jubbaland administration.
The Federal Government also revealed the establishment of a national investigative committee to probe the incident further. “The committee will conduct a comprehensive investigation into this matter and submit an official report to the government,” Al-Adala added.
The Ministry of Defense accused Ahmed Madobe’s administration of provoking the conflict. It alleges that government forces stationed in Raas Kambooni were attacked by troops loyal to Ahmed Madobe despite not having orders to engage in combat at the time.
“This decision followed provocations by Ahmed Madobe, who irresponsibly sought to pit Somali soldiers against one another, disregarding the value of their lives,” the Ministry said in a statement.
It added that Somali National Army (SNA) troops were initially deployed to secure areas vacated by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), particularly locations previously controlled by Kenyan forces. It emphasized that the SNA’s mandate in the region was strictly limited to combating extremist groups like AS.
“The Somali National Army had no orders to engage in combat with Jubbaland forces or anyone other than the Khawarij [Al-Shabaab],” the ministry said in a statement. “Our commitment is safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty, people, and faith.”
Jubbaland has confirmed that an undisclosed number of federal troops have surrendered to their state forces.
The government’s accusations have further strained its relations with the Jubbaland administration, which has previously faced allegations of collaboration with AS. The Ministry of Defense had earlier claimed that the group provided logistical and tactical support to Jubbaland forces during the Raas Kambooni attack, an assertion viewed as evidence of a deeper alignment between the two entities.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Jubbaland administration had not responded to the accusations. However, analysts anticipate that a formal statement may be issued in the coming hours to address the Federal Government’s claims.
