Two Killed in Clash Over Road Blockade Near Beledweyne.
Monday 23, Sep 2024 {HMC} At least two people were killed and two others wounded in a clash between rival armed forces on the outskirts of Beledweyne on Monday, according to local reports.
The conflict erupted in the Ikacade area, 25 kilometers northeast of Beledweyne, after forces supporting transporters in the Hiraan region, who had blocked the road, clashed with opposing forces attempting to forcibly pass through the blockade.
The blockade was imposed by the transporters in response to the growing number of checkpoints between Beledweyne and Mataban, which has disrupted traffic on the road connecting the northern region with Beledweyne.
Neither the Beledweyne Transport Committee nor local authorities have commented on the casualties or provided further details about the conflict.
Transporters have halted the movement of goods, including vegetables, livestock, and food, until a formal resolution is reached regarding the numerous checkpoints obstructing their routes.

Trump golf-course suspect left note saying he intended to kill him – FBI
Monday 23 Sep 2024 {HMC} A suspected gunman arrested near Donald Trump’s golf-course wrote a note months earlier saying he intended to kill the former president, a court filing shows.
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump,” the note says.
In court documents filed on Monday, prosecutors said the letter was dropped off at the home of a witness several months before the 15 September incident in Florida.
Ryan Routh, 58, is expected to appear at a federal court later on Monday and could face further charges.
He is so far facing two federal gun crime charges.
The pre-written note appears to pre-empt a failed assassination attempt. “I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster,” it reads.
The court documents filed by prosecutors in support of Mr Routh’s continued pre-trial detention noted that a box containing the letter – as well as ammunition, building materials, tools and four phones were dropped off at the home of the unnamed witness before the incident.
Mr Routh has been held in jail since his arrest on 15 September. A Secret Service agent spotted his face in foliage while securing the sixth hole of Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach before noticing a rifle, prosecutors say.
The agent then jumped out of his golf cart, drew his gun and fired after seeing Mr Routh allegedly move his gun, the court filing says.
The court documents also indicate he had 11 rounds of ammunition, one of which was chambered in the rifle.
Phone records show that Mr Routh had been near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort for nearly a month between 18 August and 15 September.
He is originally from North Carolina and spent much of his life there, although he most recently lived in Hawaii.
In 2022, he went to Ukraine in a failed bid to recruit foreign soldiers for Ukraine’s military following the country’s invasion by Russian forces.
The American reportedly contacted the legion on a regular basis with ideas described by one Ukrainian soldier as “nonsensical” and “delusional”.
The suspect had also admitted to being turned down himself, claiming it was down to his age and lack of fighting experience.

Monday 23 Sep 2024 {HMC} At least 30 bodies were found on a boat drifting off the coast of Senegal’s capital, the military said Monday, as the number of migrants leaving West Africa increases.
The navy was informed of the vessel’s presence on Sunday evening and sent out a boat patrol to the area, 70 kilometers (38 nautical miles) from Dakar, Ibrahima Sow, spokesperson for Senegal’s military, said in a statement.
“So far, 30 bodies have been counted,” Sow said.
The advanced state of decomposition of the bodies is making the identification process very difficult, the military said, adding that investigations will provide more information on the death toll and the boat’s origin.
Earlier this month, a boat carrying 89 people on board capsized off the coast of Senegal. At least 37 people died, according to Senegalese authorities.
Many of the migrants leaving West Africa through Senegal flee conflict, poverty and a lack of jobs. Most head to the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the coast of West Africa, which is used as a stepping stone to continental Europe.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 22,300 people have landed on the Canary Islands, 126% more than the same period last year, according to statistics released by Spain’s Interior Ministry.
Last month, the Senegalese army said it had arrested 453 migrants and “members of smuggling networks” as part of a 12-day operation patrolling the coastline. More than half of those arrested were Senegalese nationals, the army said.
In July, a boat carrying 300 migrants, mostly from Gambia and Senegal, capsized off Mauritania. More than a dozen died and at least 150 others went missing.
The Atlantic route from West Africa to the Canary Islands is one of the deadliest in the world. While there is no accurate death toll because of the lack of information on departures from West Africa, the Spanish migrant rights group Walking Borders estimates the victims are in the thousands this year alone.
Migrant vessels that get lost or run into problems often vanish in the Atlantic, with some drifting across the ocean for months until they are found in the Caribbean and Latin America carrying only human remains.
