Sunday 21 Dec 2025 {HMC} The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held a meeting on Saturday (December 20) with his Egyptian counterpart, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, which took place in Cairo from 19 to 20 December.

The discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across economic, development, investment and security fields, with both sides stressing the importance of practical partnerships that contribute to stability and sustainable development.

Minister Abdisalam welcomed Egypt’s continued support for Somalia and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Cairo, particularly in diplomacy, security and institutional capacity-building.

He also highlighted the value of coordinated regional efforts to promote peace and long-term stability.

For his part, Dr. Abdelatty underlined the positive trajectory of Egypt–Somalia relations and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation.

He noted that the relocation of the Egyptian embassy headquarters to Mogadishu is expected to facilitate closer diplomatic engagement and improve coordination between the two countries.

The meeting also covered regional security developments, with Egypt reiterating its support for stability in Somalia and the Horn of Africa and emphasizing the need for sustained international financing for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to ensure its effectiveness.

Both ministers underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism, calling for enhanced regional and international coordination to address threats to peace and security in the region.

Sunday December 21, 2025 {HMC} Somalia and China on Tuesday marked the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, vowing to elevate their mutual cooperation and pursue more productive and shared interests.

Addressing the event held in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said, “We gathered to celebrate a truly historic milestone, 65 years of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China. This is an important anniversary, a testament to enduring friendship between our two peoples, a friendship built on mutual respect, sovereignty and shared understanding.”

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960, Somalia and China have pursued together through changing times, through moments for progress and moments of challenges, through regional and global transformations, Abdi said.
He noted that over decades, China has remained a trusted partner of Somalia, a partner that respects Somalia’s independence, supports national priorities and a partner that believes in the country’s future.

“Our cooperation has been practical and impactful, it has supported infrastructure development, it has strengthened health, education, public services and capacity building and it has responded to humanitarian needs during difficult moments,” Abdi added.

Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu said that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China on Dec. 14, 1960, opened a new chapter in the history of friendly exchanges between the two nations.

“That year Somalia became independent and China was among the first few countries to recognize it; meanwhile, Somalia was the first country in East Africa to establish diplomatic ties with China,” Wang said.

He said China appreciates Somalia’s consistent adherence to the one-China principle and will continuously and firmly support Somalia’s efforts in safeguarding its national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

The China-Somalia friendship is a demonstration of mutual beneficial cooperation and common development, he added.

The Somali foreign minister emphasized that achieving lasting peace and stability in Africa depends on an integrated approach that links security, economic development, and humanitarian assistance. He noted that coordinated international support is essential to help African countries, including Somalia, overcome conflict, climate-related challenges, and economic disruptions.

Minister Abdisalam reaffirmed Somalia’s support for the Russia–Africa partnership, describing it as an important platform for dialogue and cooperation. He called for a more just and balanced international system, predictable development financing, and improved access to modern technology to support sustainable development and climate resilience across the continent.

The two-day conference focused on enhancing strategic cooperation between Russia and African states in areas such as diplomacy, trade, security, and economic development, providing Somalia with an opportunity to engage with partners on shared priorities and future collaboration.
