Friday 19 Sep 2025 {HMC} Somali National Army’s elite Danab commandos, in collaboration with Jubbaland’s Dervish forces, carried out mine clearance operations on Thursday in the outskirts of Kismayo, the capital of the Lower Juba region.

Danab officers told reporters that the operation was aimed at removing mines planted by AS militants to protect civilians and secure key roads.

“This mine clearance operation comes after repeated incidents in which roadside bombs have targeted vehicles carrying civilians, causing deaths and injuries,” an official said.

Danab and Jubbaland Dervish forces have recently intensified joint operations across districts in the Lower Juba region. In recent weeks, several landmine explosions have struck public and military vehicles, with local authorities blaming As for the attacks.

Friday 19 Sep 2025 {HMC}A Somali delegation led by Defense Minister Ahmed Moalin Fiqi is attending the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, a major international defense conference underway in China.

The forum, held at the Beijing International Convention Center under the theme “Upholding International Order and Promoting Peaceful Development,” has drawn participation from more than 100 countries and international organizations.

In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Defense said the country’s presence underscores its “growing role in global security matters” and reflects its commitment to international peace and cooperation.

Minister Fiqi emphasized Somalia’s active role as a current member of the United Nations Security Council, highlighting the country’s broader foreign policy objective of contributing to stability worldwide.

The Beijing Xiangshan Forum has become one of the most prominent platforms for addressing global security challenges and fostering dialogue at a time of heightened international tensions.
