Dowladda Soomaaliya oo Soo bandhigtay Arrimo muhiim ah uu Turkiga ka taageeray.

Arbaco 26, March 2025 {HMC} Dowladda Federaalka Soomaaliya ayaa si qoto dheer ugu mahadcelisay dowladda Turkiga taageerada xooggan iyo garab istaagga ay u fidisay dadaallada socda ee lagula dagaallamayo kooxda argagixisada ah ee Al-Shabaab.

Wasiirka Warfaafinta Soomaaliya, Daa’uud Aweys, oo la hadlay TRT Afrika, ayaa muujiyay muhiimadda iskaashiga difaaceed ee Turkigu si joogto ah ula garab taagan yahay Soomaaliya, gaar ahaan dagaalka lagula jiro kooxda xagjirka ah ee muddada dheer carqaladeyneysay xasilloonida dalka.

Wasiir Aweys ayaa carrabka ku adkeeyay in taageerada Turkiga aysan ku koobnayn kaliya dhinaca farsamada, balse ay ka turjumayso walaaltinimo qoto dheer oo xoojinaysa awoodda ciidamada amniga xilli muhiim ah oo dalku wajahayo.

“Xiriirka aan la leenahay Turkiga waa mid waara, ku dhisan dan wadaag iyo iskaashi istaraatiji ah,” ayuu yiri Wasiir Aweys. “Waa tiir muhiim u ah la-dagaalanka argagixisada, xoojinta amniga, iyo horumarinta nabadda waarta ee gobolka. Iskaashigan wuxuu tusaale u yahay sida awoodaha soo koraya ay gacan uga geysan karaan xasillinta iyo dib-u-dhiska dowladaha kasoo kabanaya colaadaha.”

Nabad lagu gutay Ramadaanka

Wasiir Aweys ayaa sidoo kale ammaanay taageerada Turkiga ee bisha barakeysan ee Ramadaan, isagoo ku tilmaamay tallaabo dhab ah oo muujinaysa midnimo iyo garab istaag. Wuxuu xusay in iskaashiga labada dal uu si weyn uga qayb qaatay dadaallada dhismaha nabadda ee Soomaaliya.

“Iskaashigeennu wuxuu ahaa mid lama huraan ah,” ayuu yiri.

Xakamaynta dacaayadda Al-Shabaab

Madaxweynaha Soomaaliya, Xasan Sheekh Maxamuud, ayaa hoggaaminaya dagaal qaran oo ballaaran oo ka dhan ah kooxda Al-Shabaab ee xiriirka la leh Al-Qaacida, taasoo Soomaaliya ku haysay argagixiso muddo ka badan toban sano.

Dhawaan, Hay’adda Sirdoonka iyo Nabadsugidda Qaranka (NISA) ayaa guulo waaweyn ka gaartay kooxdaas, iyagoo dilay in ka badan 80 dagaalyahan isla markaana gacanta ku dhigay tiro kale.

Wasaaradda Warfaafinta ayaa sidoo kale qaaday tallaabooyin muhiim ah oo lagu xakameynayo warbaahinta faafisa borobogaandada Al-Shabaab, iyadoo xirtay xarumo warbaahineed oo lala xiriiriyay kooxda.

Guddiga Madaxa Bannaan ee Warbaahinta Soomaaliya ayaa ammaanay tallaabadan, isagoo sheegay inay lagama maarmaan u tahay difaaca shacabka lagana ilaaliyo marin habaabinta iyo adeegsigga khaldan ee diinta.

Waxaa intaa dheer, dowladda Soomaaliya ayaa mamnuucday isticmaalka magaca “Al-Shabaab” warbaahinta qaar, taasoo qeyb ka ah dadaallada lagu xadidayo saameynta kooxda ee doodaha bulshada.

Wasiir Aweys ayaa hadalkiisa kusoo gabagabeeyay isagoo mar kale ku celiyay go’aanka Soomaaliya ee ah inay si buuxda u cirib tirto Al-Shabaab. Wuxuu carabka ku adkeeyay in ciidamada amniga oo ay garab taagan yihiin Turkiga iyo saaxiibada kale ee caalamiga ah ay dalka ka xorayn doonaan kooxaha argagixisada ah.

“Waxaan kalsooni ku qabnaa guusha howlgaladeenna, iyadoo aan leenahay meel istiraatiji ah oo muhiim ah gobolka,” ayuu yiri. “Waxaan si gaar ah ugu mahadcelineynaa Turkiga taageeradooda joogtada ah. Anagoo la kaashanayna saaxiibadeenna, waxaan cirib tiri doonnaa Al-Shabaab, waxaana dalka dib ugu soo celin doonnaa nabad iyo xasillooni waarta.”

Madax-bannaanida Soomaaliya

Wasiir Aweys ayaa sidoo kale ugu baaqay warbaahinta caalamka inay ka fiirsato sheegashooyinka ah in xiriirka Turkiga uu saameyn ku yeeshay go’aannadii dhowaan ee Golaha Wasiirrada Soomaaliya.

Wuxuu sheegay in sheegashooyinkaas ay si khaldan u matalayaan madax-bannaanida Soomaaliya, isagoo xusay in hoggaanka dalka uu go’aamada u gaaraa si madax bannaan oo ku saleysan danaha qaranka iyo shacabka.

Wasiirku wuxuu intaa ku daray in Soomaaliya ay sii wadi doonto iskaashiga ay la leedahay saaxiibadeeda caalamiga ah, iyadoo u maraysa hannaan waafaqsan himiladeeda amniga, horumarka iyo isku filnaanshaha.

Isagoo xusay in Soomaaliya tahay dal madax bannaan, ayuu adkeeyay inay ka go’an tahay dhisidda xiriir istiraatiji ah oo ku saleysan is-ixtiraam, si mudnaanta loo siiyo amniga, horumarka, iyo xasilloonida dalka

European universities offer ‘scientific asylum’ to US researchers fleeing Trump’s cuts.

0

Tuesday 25 March 2025 {HMC} Laced with terms such as “censorship” and “political interference”, the Belgium-based jobs advert was far from typical. The promise of academic freedom, however, hinted at who it was aimed at: researchers in the US looking to flee the funding freezes, cuts and ideological impositions ushered in by Donald Trump’s administration.

“We see it as our duty to come to the aid of our American colleagues,” said Jan Danckaert, the rector of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), in explaining why his university – founded in 1834 to safeguard academia from the interference of church or state – had decided to open 12 postdoctoral positions for international researchers, with a particular focus on Americans.

“American universities and their researchers are the biggest victims of this political and ideological interference,” Danckaert said in a statement. “They’re seeing millions in research funding disappear for ideological reasons.”

The university is among a handful of institutions across Europe that have begun actively recruiting US researchers, offering themselves as a haven for those keen to escape the Trump administration’s crackdown on research and academia.

Since Trump took power in late January, researchers in the US have faced a multipronged attack. Efforts to slash government spending have left thousands of employees bracing for layoffs, including at institutions such as Nasa, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the US’s pre-eminent climate research agency.

The government’s targeting of “wokeism” has meanwhile sought to root out funding for research deemed to involve diversity, certain kinds of vaccines and any mention of the climate crisis.

In France, the director of the prestigious Pasteur Institute in Paris, Yasmine Belkaid, said it was already working to recruit people from across the Atlantic for work in fields such as infectious diseases or the origins of disease.

“I receive daily requests from people who want to return: French, European or even Americans who no longer feel able to do their research or are afraid to do it freely,” Belkaid told the French newspaper La Tribune. “You might call it a sad opportunity, but it is an opportunity, all the same.”

The sentiment was echoed by France’s minister for higher education and research, Philippe Baptiste, in a recent letter that called on research institutions to send in proposals on how best to attract talent from the US. “Many well-known researchers are already questioning their future in the US,” he said. “Naturally, we wish to welcome a certain number of them.”

On Thursday, the Netherlands said it was aiming to swiftly launch a fund to attract researchers to the country.

While the fund would be open to people of all nationalities, the country’s education minister, Eppo Bruins, hinted at the tensions that have gripped US academia in announcing the plans.

“There is currently a great global demand for international top scientific talent. At the same time, the geopolitical climate is changing, which is increasing the international mobility of scientists,” Bruins said in a letter to parliament.

“Several European countries are responding to this with efforts to attract international talent,” he added. “I want the Netherlands to remain at the vanguard of these efforts.”

The Dutch effort comes after France’s Aix-Marseille University said it had set up a programme – titled Safe Place for Science – that would put aside funding for more than two dozen researchers from the US for three years.

“We wish we didn’t have to do this,” said Éric Berton, the university’s president. “We’re not looking to attract researchers.

But we were quite indignant about what was happening and we felt that our colleagues in the US were going through a catastrophe … we wanted to offer some sort of scientific asylum to those whose research is being hindered.”

Two weeks after the programme was launched there have been about 100 applications, with researchers from Yale, Nasa and Stanford among those who have expressed interest.

The university continues to receive about 10 applications a day, said Berton, many of them from researchers involved in studying climate, health or social sciences.

Berton said he hoped universities across Europe would join his in providing a safe space for researchers. “I think that we need to realise the historic moment we’re living through and the serious, long-term consequences this could have,” he said. “Europe must rise to the occasion.”

At VUB, the opening of the 12 postdoctoral positions was also aimed at acknowledging the global impact of Trump’s crackdown.

Two research projects in which the university was involved – one delving into youth and disinformation and another investigating the transatlantic dialogue between the US and Europe – had been cancelled due to “changed policy priorities”, it said.

For the university in Brussels, the openings were also a vindication of sorts. In a 2016 interview with Fox News, Trump had sought to characterise life in Brussels as akin to “living in a hellhole”, falsely accusing migrants in the city of failing to assimilate.

“At the time, the statement elicited many emotional reactions in Europe,” the university said. “This gives additional symbolic meaning to the VUB initiative.”

Livestock deaths cause hunger in Mudug.

0

Tuesday 25 March 2025 {HMC} One thousand five hundred families in Ali-Waal area of Mudug region, central Somalia, are facing dire living conditions due to the loss of most of their livestock over the past three months. This has happened because of the lack of pasture and water following two and a half years of poor rainfall.

Abdullahi Mohamed Ali’s family lost 85 of their goats. The remaining animals are weak and produce neither milk nor meat, leaving the family with severe food and water shortages after two and a half years of poor rainfall.

“We have a problem getting food. We used to get it from local shops on debt, but when they saw that most of our animals died, they stopped giving us debt. We don’t have animals to sell and buy food. We only hope for help from God,” Abdullahi told Radio Ergo.

The family now relies on 10 kilos of food, including flour, rice, and sugar, taken on credit from local shops in late February. The water storage system they depended on has dried up, forcing them to beg for water from relatives in Galkayo.

“The main reason our livestock are dying is the lack of water,” Abdullahi explained. “We relied on small dams, which have run out. The closest water source is Bitaale, 40 km away, where a barrel of water costs $7, which we can’t afford.”

The family has been refused further water by tankers due to a $250 debt they have accumulated. They now depend on the kindness of others for donations of water, which are barely enough for drinking.

“The challenges caused by the lack of water include struggling to find food. Children are starving and vulnerable to diseases. The camels we used to carry water are too weak to do so.”

Abdullahi fears their situation will worsen without rain or aid. The 40 year-old, who has spent his entire life in the area, says these are the worst living conditions they have ever experienced.

Burhan Hudi shares similar struggles. His family of nine faces severe food shortages after losing 150 goats due to lack of pasture, unknown diseases, and water scarcity.

“The livestock are suffering the most from the drought. They don’t have enough water or food. The lack of pasture makes them weak. Both people and animals are suffering from this drought,” Burhan said.

His family now relies on one meal a day, provided by local people. However, the number of people able to help them has decreased due to the worsening situation generally for everybody.

“The debts I have are huge. We owe about $5,000. The shops stopped giving us credit. Previously, they gave us food and clothes, but now our animals are dead, and we can’t pay our debts,” he told Radio Ergo.

Burhan plans to relocate his family to a bigger town in the region to find a better life. He is desperate for aid or rain to improve their situation.

The local district leader, Muhayadi Sheikh Abdi, confirmed that the lack of water and poor pasture had weakened the livestock, affecting people with no financial reserves.

“There is ongoing hunger affecting people and animals. People have lost their livestock and have nowhere to turn. We expect help from God, but there is a great danger to everyone,” Muhayadi warned.

Somalia commends Türkiye for security collaboration amid peaceful Ramadan.

0

Tuesday 25 March 2025 {HMC} The Federal Republic of Somalia has expressed its deep appreciation to Türkiye for its steadfast solidarity and cooperation in supporting Somalia’s ongoing fight against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Speaking to TRT Afrika, Somalia’s Information Minister, Daud Aweis, underscored the importance of Türkiye’s continuous defense collaboration in Somalia’s battle against the extremist and militant group, which has long destabilized the nation.

Minister Aweis emphasized that Türkiye’s support is not limited to technical aid but reflects a deep, enduring brotherhood that strengthens Somalia’s security forces at a crucial time in the country’s struggle.

“Our relationship with Türkiye is a long-term, institutional partnership built on mutual interests and strategic cooperation,” Minister Aweis remarked. “It is vital in combating terrorism, enhancing security, and promoting long-term peace in the region. This partnership serves as a model for how emerging powers can help recovering states stabilize and develop.”

Peaceful Ramadhan

Minister Aweis further commended Türkiye’s ongoing support during the holy month of Ramadan, calling it a true gesture of solidarity. He noted that Türkiye’s collaboration has significantly contributed to Somalia’s peace-building efforts.

“Our partnership with Türkiye has been invaluable,” Aweis continued. “Their consistent collaboration throughout Ramadan has been a reflection of true brotherhood and has played a key role in restoring peace to Somalia.”

Somalia’s security forces have benefited substantially from Türkiye’s assistance, including military academy training, technical support, and advanced defense equipment. These efforts have led to notable progress, culminating in a much safer and more peaceful Ramadan in 2025, a sharp contrast to previous years marred by violence and insecurity.

“Thanks to this collaboration, we are witnessing a more peaceful Ramadan,” Aweis said. “The resources provided by our defense partnership have been instrumental in strengthening our military operations against Al-Shabaab, playing a crucial role in our progress on the battlefield.”

Propaganda outlets

Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has spearheaded a nationwide offensive against Al-Shabaab, the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group that has plagued Somalia for over a decade. Recently, Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) successfully neutralized over 80 terrorists and captured several others in a major blow to the group.

The Somali Ministry of Information has also taken significant steps to counter Al-Shabaab’s propaganda by shutting down numerous media outlets affiliated with the terrorist group. This move has been praised by the Independent Media Council of Somalia, which commended the government’s actions as necessary to protect the public from the manipulation and distortion of religious values.

In addition, the Somali government has banned the use of the term “Al-Shabaab” in certain media outlets as part of its efforts to limit the group’s influence over public discourse.

Minister Aweis concluded his statements by reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to defeating Al-Shabaab. He emphasized that Somalia’s security forces, with the support of Türkiye and other international partners, would ultimately liberate the country from the grip of terrorism.

“We are confident in the success of our operations thanks to our strategic position in the region, and we thank Türkiye for its continued support,” Aweis stated. “With our allies, we will defeat Al-Shabaab and restore lasting peace and stability to Somalia.”

Somalia’s autonomy

Minister Aweis also urged international media to be cautious about claims suggesting that foreign pressure influenced Somalia’s recent cabinet decisions due to its ties with Türkiye. He stressed that such narratives misrepresent Somalia’s autonomy, as the country’s leadership makes decisions based on what is best for the nation and its people. The origins of these claims remain unclear, and it is crucial to maintain accurate, responsible discourse regarding Somalia’s political affairs.

The Minister furher added that Somalia would continue to collaborate with its international allies in a way that aligns with its vision for security, development, and self-reliance. As a sovereign nation, he emphasized that Somalia is committed to strengthening strategic alliances based on mutual respect, ensuring that its security, development, and stability remain top priorities.
