Thursday March 13, 2025 {HMC} The President of Hirshabelle State, Mr. Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Ali Guudlawe), held a virtual meeting with the United States Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Richard H. Riley, and Colonel Norris, Commander of the Joint Special Operations Task Force Somalia, to discuss ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen bilateral cooperation. The meeting, which took place on yesterday, focused on the fight against al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle and the significant financial, military, and humanitarian assistance provided by the United States to support Somalia in this critical battle.
The US Embassy in Mogadishu confirmed the meeting in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Ambassador Riley, Joint Special Operations Task Force Somalia Commander Colonel Norris, and Hirshabelle President @GudlaweHussein had a teleconference call to discuss the fight in Middle Shabelle and the massive financial, military, and humanitarian assistance the United States continues to provide to Somalia in this fight against al-Shabaab.”
President Guudlawe briefed Ambassador Riley and Colonel Norris on the progress of ongoing military operations in Middle Shabelle, which have dealt significant blows to al-Shabaab militants. Himilo Qaran condemns AS attack, blames Somali government for security lapses

The party criticized the Federal Government’s failure to prevent terrorist assaults, accusing it of prioritizing political maneuvering over national security.
The Cairo Hotel attack, which targeted civilians and claimed multiple lives, is the latest in a series of violent incidents across major Somali cities. Himilo Qaran argued that these attacks reflect a broader decline in security, which was attributed to government mismanagement and inaction. The party accused the administration of being preoccupied with consolidating power, suppressing dissent, and engaging in corruption while neglecting its duty to protect citizens.
“The government has turned counterterrorism into a political shield rather than a national priority,” the party said in a statement. “Instead of focusing on meaningful security reforms, it is using the fight against terrorism to silence opposition and deflect attention from its own failures.”
