Monday 27 ,Jan 2025 {HMC} The Chairman of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission and Boundaries, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, held a preliminary meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Ambassador Karin Johansson.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed key issues related to Somalia’s electoral processes and the strategic plans of the National Independent Electoral Commission and Boundaries.

Chairman Abdikarim emphasized that the commission is committed to ensuring that the Somali people have the opportunity to freely elect their leaders across all administrative levels in the country. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration between the commission and international partners like the EU to support Somalia’s democratic development.

Monday 27 ,Jan 2025 {HMC} The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Ahmed Moallim Fiqi inaugurated the Somali-Norwegian Business Summit in Mogadishu on Monday with the participation of members of the Somali Federal Parliament, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy, H.E. Mr. Carsten Carlsen, and members of the Somali diaspora returning from Norway, under the theme “Unlocking Somalia’s Potential: Reducing corruption, empowering investments, and building sustainable partnerships”.

In his remarks, the Foreign Minister commended the Somali diaspora in Norway for fostering ties between the two countries and recognized their significant contributions. He highlighted Norway’s active role in supporting development projects and emphasized the importance of transferring knowledge and expertise to advance economic recovery in key sectors.

The Minister also called for collective efforts to strengthen the national agenda for the country’s recovery and sustainable growth.

Key addresses were delivered by the Director of the Diaspora Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Gure Mohamed, and the Chairman of the Somali-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, Mohamed Abdelqader, and his deputy, Sadad Dakhare.

The summit marked an important step toward deepening collaboration and fostering investment opportunities.

Monday 27 ,Jan 2025 {HMC} The Somali Immigration and Naturalization Agency (SINA) and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) have today signed a significant cooperation agreement. The agreement focuses on five key areas aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two entities:

1. Preventing Organized Crime

2. Enhancing Travel Security

3. Strengthening Collaboration and Communication Between HSJ and Interpol

4. Building the Security Skills of HSJ Officers

5. Tracking Missing Persons

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the head of Interpol’s Somalia branch praised the Director-General of the Somali Immigration and Naturalization Agency, Mr. Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow, for achieving this milestone agreement in a short period. He also commended the HSJ team for their tireless efforts in facilitating the agreement’s development and ensuring its alignment with security priorities.

In his remarks, Mr. Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow expressed gratitude to both the HSJ and Interpol teams, particularly Interpol’s Somalia leadership, for their cooperation. He emphasized the importance of the agreement in advancing efforts to combat extremism and addressing crimes related to migration, both within Somalia and on a global scale.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Dhuxulow accompanied the Interpol delegation on a visit to the Immigration Crime Prevention Unit, known as the Fraud Detection Unit (FDU). The delegation received a briefing from officers working at the unit, highlighting its operations and strategies to detect and prevent migration-related crimes.

This partnership marks a crucial step toward improving security measures, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing the skills of Somali security personnel to tackle both local and global challenges.

Monday 27 ,Jan 2025 {HMC} The Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with local forces, successfully carried out operations to liberate several key areas in eastern Hiiraan. Among the locations freed from Al-Shabaab militants are Beero Yabaal, Bur Abooto, Eega Galmay, Jidcillaan, and Cadow Gurey.

Speaking to the state media, Colonel Abdullahi Omar, Commander of the SNA’s 27th Division, confirmed that the operations resulted in the elimination of several militants and the destruction of critical enemy hideouts. Additionally, the forces captured weapons and equipment from the militants during the mission.

These operations are part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to eradicate Al-Shabaab and restore peace and stability in liberated regions. The successful mission marks another step forward in securing Somalia and disrupting militant activities.
