Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareeye, led a delegation to participate in an international conference on agricultural development held in Berlin, Germany. The annual event focused on advancing global agriculture, exchanging expertise, and fostering collaboration among nations and international organizations working in the agricultural sector.

During the conference, Minister Maareeye held bilateral meetings with agriculture ministers from various countries and senior officials from international organizations in attendance. These discussions centered on the challenges faced by Somali farmers, the obstacles hindering agricultural development, and strategies to support and enhance Somalia’s agricultural sector.

The minister emphasized the urgent need for increased investment and development projects to support Somali farmers, particularly those in areas affected by climate change and recurring droughts. He appealed to the international community to scale up efforts to address these challenges and provide sustainable solutions for Somalia’s agricultural development.

The conference provided a platform for Somalia to highlight its agricultural priorities and seek international support to improve food security, resilience, and livelihoods for Somali farming communities.

Sunday 19, Jan,2025 {HMC} The Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with local forces, successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying military supplies intended for the Al-Shabaab terrorist group in the Baar-Dheere area of Hiiraan region. During the operation, the forces seized a Suzuki vehicle and 13 AK-47 rifles on the outskirts of Baar-Dheere.

Colonel Mahmoud Hassan Ibrahim (Bakay), commander of the 5th Battalion of the 27th Division of the SNA, told Somali National News Agency (SONNA) that the operation was based on intelligence about the vehicle transporting weapons to AS. He commended the troops for their swift and decisive action.

The commander emphasized that forces in Hiiraan remain vigilant and prepared to counter enemy threats. He urged further intensification of operations against AS to enhance the region’s security and stability.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the SNA and local forces to disrupt AS activities and ensure peace in the Hiiraan region.

Sunday 19, Jan,2025 {HMC} Regional forces from Puntland and Galmudug have separated two armed militias that exchanged gunfire in Galkayo’s Garsoor neighbourhood, located in the capital of the Mudug region on Saturday night.

The clash resulted in casualties, though the exact number remains unconfirmed.

Traditional leaders in Puntland have called for peace, urging the warring Lelkase and Sacad clan militias in western Mudug to resolve their differences through dialogue, compromise, and mutual understanding.

“We encourage both administrations to take responsibility and strengthen peace,” the elders said in a statement, expressing their support for peacemaking efforts led by elders and intellectuals from both sides.

Residents in the Garsoor neighbourhood reported a tense atmosphere despite the separation of the militias. Many remain anxious, fearing renewed violence in the area.

Sunday 19, Jan,2025 {HMC} Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has vowed to build a modern, well-trained military force equipped with advanced weaponry during his tenure.

The announcement was made during a Saturday meeting with senior military officials in Hargeisa.

“I have embarked on a political campaign to establish a national army with the latest training and modern weapons, capable of securing Somaliland’s borders, airspace, and seas. My primary goal is to re-establish and modernize the military’s capabilities,” said President Irro.

The president emphasized that a strong military is critical to establishing a dignified government. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, including a 200% salary increase for soldiers, a move he stated is already underway.

President Irro also revealed plans to draft new military laws, establish an air force and reserves, and integrate civilian forces formed in Somaliland’s eastern regions during recent conflicts.

The announcement comes as Somaliland’s military faces challenges following recent defeats by SSC-Khatumo forces in the Sool region, particularly in Las Anod. During these clashes, hundreds of Somaliland soldiers were captured, and military equipment fell into SSC-Khatumo’s hands.
