Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh held a meeting with Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) George Conway to discuss ongoing stabilization efforts, the advancement of local governance, and durable solutions for communities across Somalia.

The engagement focused on strengthening coordination between the Ministry and the United Nations to enhance peace-building, resilience, and long-term recovery.

Sunday November 16, 2025 {HMC}  The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, laid the foundation for the new National Agricultural Research Institute, expressing high hopes that the institute will produce Somali experts who play a leading role in advancing the country’s agricultural production.

The Prime Minister emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of the Somali economy and plays a vital role in the development of communities worldwide. He highlighted that the government prioritizes boosting domestic production, especially as the world faces growing food insecurity, which has forced many countries to halt exports of their crops.

“Our land is highly suitable for farming and has sufficient water resources. Somalia could achieve self-sufficiency if agricultural production is developed. The government is committed to promoting an economy based on agriculture and livestock,” said Prime Minister Hamza.

He commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation for their efforts in organizing farmers and cooperatives, stressing the importance of raising awareness and knowledge among farmers. He also called on Somali entrepreneurs to reconsider their investments and actively support domestic agricultural production, noting the sector’s significant economic potential.

“Somalia occupies a strategic location of global importance, and many countries are ready to invest in our nation, particularly in agriculture and livestock,” added Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

Sunday November 16, 2025 {HMC} Northeastern regional state President Abdikadir Ahmed Aw Ali Firdhiye on Saturday presented his new Cabinet and a five-year governing plan to the regional parliament, asking lawmakers to endorse his administration as it begins its first full term.

President Firdhiye, joined by Vice President Abdirashid Yusuf Jibriil, outlined the agenda that will guide the region’s political and economic direction, urging legislators to grant a vote of confidence to the incoming ministers.

He said his government’s program is anchored on six core pillars: security, state-building, economic growth, social services, good governance and anti-corruption, and strengthening the judiciary to ensure the rule of law.
Lawmakers listened to the newly appointed ministers, who briefed the chamber on their backgrounds and experience before the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to approve both the Cabinet and its five-year agenda.

President Firdhiye thanked the Speaker and members of parliament for their support, emphasizing the need for stronger cooperation among government institutions to accelerate service delivery and development projects.

The new administration consists of 21 ministers, alongside two deputy ministers appointed two weeks ago. However, sources say political tensions have already surfaced within the Cabinet, with disputes emerging among some of the newly appointed ministers even before the government formally begins its work.

The approval nonetheless gives President Firdhiye the mandate to move ahead with what he described as an ambitious governance and reform program for the Northeastern region.
