Sunday 15,June 2025 {HMC} Two Kenya Air Force officers were on Saturday, June 14, killed in a plane crash in Kwale County.

The officers were killed in Ndavaya, Kinango, in an incident that was confirmed by County Commissioner Stephen Orinde.

Further, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) released a statement confirming the incident and also explained the circumstances that seemingly caused the crash.

Despite confirming two officers on board, they neither confirmed nor denied that the crash claimed the lives of the military personnel.

“Earlier today, 14th June 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft experienced an emergency while on a training flight in the general area of Mwakijembe Primary School, Ndavaya, Kwale County,’ KDF stated.

“On Board were two pilots. Recovery is ongoing,” added Kenya’s military body.

According to flight records, the ill-fated aircraft departed Mombasa at 11:39 am and was last seen near Diani before disappearing from radar. It crashed at approximately 12:06 pm, just 27 minutes after takeoff.
Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the disintegrated state of the plane’s wreckage, with the roof of the aircraft completely undone.

Out of the cockpit, only the seats remained, with the nose of the plane left with just spare parts.

Compared with the plane’s tail, which had limited damage, the front section was completely damaged, supposedly signalling the plane nose-dived to the ground.

The scene of the crash was an open field with vegetation, and other reports suggested that it was a common training area for military personnel. Aside from the two officers, no civilian casualties were reported at the time of publishing.

In the aftermath of the incident, curious onlookers started milling around the scene even as emergency response teams were deployed to the crash site to assist in search and recovery operations.

The attack took place from late Friday into the early hours of Saturday in the village of Yelewata, the group said in a post on social media platform X.

“Many people are still missing…dozens injured and left without adequate medical care. Many families were locked up and burnt inside their bedrooms,” the post added.

Benue is in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, a region where the majority Muslim North meets the largely Christian South.

The region faces competition over land use, with conflicts between herders, who seek grazing land for their cattle, and farmers, who need arable land for cultivation. These tensions are often worsened by overlapping ethnic and religious divisions.

Last month, at least 42 people were shot dead by suspected herders in a series of weekend attacks across Gwer West district in Nigeria’s central Benue state.

Since 2019, the clashes have claimed more than 500 lives in the region and forced 2.2 million to leave their homes, according to research firm SBM Intelligence.

Sunday 15,June 2025 {HMC} The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, on Saturday dismissed Zeynab Mahmoud Warsame Haabseey, the long-serving commissioner of Warta Nabadda District, and appointed Libaan Ali Mohamed as her replacement.

Zeynab Haabseey, who has led the district for over seven years, was one of the longest-serving district commissioners in the Banadir region.

Governor Muungaab urged the newly appointed commissioner to focus on urban development, beautification, and the effective delivery of essential services to residents. The governor emphasized that leadership changes are part of broader efforts to improve governance and local service provision across Mogadishu.
The latest move follows recent administrative changes in Dharkeenley and Waaberi districts, reflecting Governor Muungaab’s swift approach to restructuring district leadership as part of his early priorities since taking office.

Sources close to the Banadir regional administration suggest that additional reshuffles are expected in other districts, as the new governor aims to enhance efficiency and responsiveness at the local government level.

Sunday 15,June 2025 {HMC} Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on citizens to actively support the building of effective governance, emphasizing that Somalia’s statehood should no longer rely on international support.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony at the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) —where Mahad Mohamed Salad was appointed as the new director, replacing Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe —the President underscored the critical need for Somalia to strengthen its internal capacity, particularly in the area of security.

“The international community has helped us significantly in rebuilding our state institutions,” President Hassan Sheikh said. “But where we continue to face challenges is in the area of security. Achieving a fully-fledged Somali state depends on how we handle this.”
He urged the Somali public to overcome fear and engage fully in securing the country, noting that the nation is already self-sufficient in leadership, decision-making, and development.

“Let us do things the world cannot do for us. If we take ownership of our security, the world will stand beside us in rebuilding Somalia,” he said.

Addressing the new NISA leadership, President Mohamud directed Mahad Mohamed Salad to build on the agency’s current achievements by intensifying counter-terrorism efforts, improving inter-agency coordination, and working to restore and strengthen public confidence in the country’s security institutions.

The President’s comments reflect his administration’s growing emphasis on self-reliance and national responsibility, especially as Somalia navigates a complex political and security landscape while international forces prepare for a gradual drawdown.
