Commissioner of Jannaale: We will eliminate the Khawarij from all areas.

Saturday 7,June ,2025 {HMC}  The Somali National Army (SNA) and the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) have carried out a joint security operation in areas surrounding the town of Jannaale, located in the Lower Shabelle region. The forces extended their presence to vast areas in an effort to bolster security and disrupt militant activity.

Abdirahman Al-Cadaala, the local Commissioner of Jannaale, addressed residents in the nearby village of Mushaani, stating, “The Khawarij claimed they would hold their Eid prayers in Jannaale, but today, Eid prayers were held in the very areas they once occupied.”

The recent operations are part of a wider military campaign led by the Somali army and local community defense forces known as Macawisley. These coordinated efforts have intensified across the regions of Middle Shabelle, Hiiraan, and Lower Shabelle, where al-Shabaab militants — referred to as Khawarij — have suffered significant losses.

The most notable blow came on Friday in Ceelhareeri, Hiiraan region, where over 40 senior commanders and fighters were killed in a special operation. The offensive was jointly planned by NISA, the Somali National Army, and international partners, marking one of the most decisive attacks against the militants in recent months.

International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations marked in Kenya.

Saturday 7,June ,2025 {HMC}   The International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations was observed Thursday in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, with a call to foster bridges of friendship and understanding among people from different cultures.

Co-hosted by the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) and the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, the event brought together over 200 attendees, including senior government officials, diplomats and scholars, and featured speeches and cultural performances.

In June 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a China-sponsored resolution to designate June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. Endorsed by consensus, the resolution underscores the importance of respecting civilizational diversity and the crucial role of dialogue in fostering global peace and advancing inclusive development.

Director-General of UNON Zainab Hawa Bangura, who read UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ message, said multilateralism is rooted in the firm conviction that dialogue among civilizations is the path to lasting global peace and cohesion.

Celebrating the rich diversity of civilizations will foster mutual understanding and global solidarity, Bangura said, stressing the urgency of embracing dialogue to heal a world grappling with growing intolerance and xenophobia.

“Let us choose dialogue over divisions, and let us strive to be one human family, rich in diversity, united in solidarity and equal in dignity and human rights,” Bangura said.

In a video message, High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Angel Moratinos said that geopolitical tensions, violent conflicts, social fragmentation and the climate crisis have escalated, while dialogue and mutual respect among different cultures and creeds can provide some respite.

Through dialogue, global civilizations can defuse tensions, build trust, and contribute positively to shaping a shared destiny for the human race, said Moratinos.

Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan said that rising turbulence in the world is a wake-up call for all civilizations to engage in dialogue and achieve mutual respect and understanding.

According to the ambassador, in the face of global challenges, no country can stand alone. Cultural differences should not be a source of confrontation but rather a driving force for progress. To build a global community of shared future for mankind, each civilization should pursue harmony through diversity and seek common ground while reserving differences.

“Standing at a historical crossroads, humanity is in urgent need of great ideas to shed light on the way forward and open minds to bridge cultural divides,” Guo said, adding that “only when each country’s path of development is truly respected can the diversity of civilizations become a wellspring of understanding and appreciation.”

Ababu Namwamba, Kenya’s permanent representative to UNON and the United Nations Environment Program, said the day reaffirms the central role of multilateralism in realizing global solidarity, peace and harmony.

Tanzania govt clarifies blocking opposition leader from travelling to Kenya.

Saturday 7,June ,2025 {HMC}   Tanzanian government has explained why opposition politician Godbless Lema, a member of the Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) party, was denied exit from Tanzania as he attempted to cross into Kenya.

Lema raised concerns that he was held at the Namanga border post for over four hours while seeking entry into Kenya for medical attention in Nairobi.

In a post on X, Lema accused Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu of frustration.

He stated that he returned to Arusha after his passport was confiscated.

“After waiting for more than 4 hours, I have officially been denied entry to Kenya. My passport has been taken away, and I am now expected to go back to Arusha…I hope this persecution will end with us and should not be passed down to our children,” he posted.

The Immigration Department has, however, dismissed Lema’s claims. In a statement, the Department’s Chief Spokesperson Paul J. Mselle confirmed that Lema was blocked from leaving the country and that his passport was held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Namanga border immigration station in Arusha Region.

Mselle stated that Lema has been instructed to report to the Immigration Headquarters for further questioning.

He explained that the procedure used to prevent Lema from leaving the country is standard and is applied to any citizen when the department possesses information that necessitates questioning the individual.

The Spokesperson urged Tanzanians to disregard the information Lema shared on social media.

“The Immigration Department calls on citizens to disregard false information published by Lema through social media suggesting that this restriction targets all CHADEMA leaders,” Mselle said.

Lema Issues Another Statement
In his reaction, Lema insisted that he had been unlawfully detained contrary to the immigration regulations governing order.

The Opposition leader stated that he has no cases in court and no complaints have been made against him by the police.

He stated that the public notice issued by the Immigration Department was issued to protect Suluhu and her government.

“I have no immigration offences, which I have been informed by the immigration officer at Namanga. This public notice has been issued as protection for the authorities who oppress people with alternative views against the rulers,” Lema said.

Leme mentioned that he will go to the immigration headquarters to follow up on the issue.

He asked security agencies to stop frustrating opposition politicians and citizens who are opposed to the government.

“I have been denied the right to travel and to access medical treatment in Nairobi without any valid reason. Stop torturing people out of fear and suspicion,” he said.

World reacts to Trump’s latest controversial travel ban

Saturday 7,June ,2025 {HMC}  Rabat – Countries across the world have strongly reacted to President Trump’s latest controversial travel ban, pointing to its severe and unwelcome international consequences.

Nationals from twelve countries – including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen – face a complete travel ban following Trump’s announcement. Meanwhile, citizens from seven countries, namely Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela, face partial travel restrictions.

The global response to the bank has largely been condemnatory, with the prevailing feeling being that the move is discriminatory and unfair.

But President Trump has signaled his readiness to shrug off US and global media’s critical coverage of his decision, stating: “I must act to protect the national security and national interests of the United States and its people.”

There have meanwhile been different levels of reactions from the nations that have been affected by the controversial announcement.

Venezuela has hit back against Trump, stating that the US itself is a dangerous place to travel. “Being in the United States is a great risk for anyone, not just for Venezuelans,” said the country’s interior minister.

By contrast, Somalia has pledged to work with Washington on the security issues President Trump cited as the reasons for his ban.

Dahir Hassan Abdi, the Somali ambassador to the US, said: “Somalia values its longstanding relationship with the United States and stands ready to engage in dialogue to address the concerns raised” by the Trump ban.

The President of the National Iranian American Council lamented the decision, stating that “the impact of the ban will once again be felt by Americans who were denied the ability to see their loved ones.”

The chairman of #AfghanEvac, a charity involved in getting Afghan refugees out of the country, described the ban as shameful and morally bankrupt. “To include Afghanistan, a nation whose people stood alongside America for 20 years, is a moral disgrace,” he argued

The president of Oxfam America agreed, fuming: “This policy is not about national security, it is about sowing discord.”

Another, controversial addition to the ban was Haiti, which is currently going through a period of Gang warfare, with Port-Au-Prince being one of the most dangerous places on earth.

This controversial decision, which will come into effect on Monday morning, will continue to have a large impact on all the countries and people concerned.

For observers, it is the latest installment in President Trump’s indifference to the moral standing the US has long claimed in international politics.
