Friday 10, Oct 2025 {HMC} Somali government, in cooperation with international aid agencies, has repatriated 148 Somali citizens from Yemen.
The group — comprising men, women, and children — arrived at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport aboard a chartered flight, marking a new beginning for those who had endured years of hardship and conflict.
newsinisdeThe repatriation effort was jointly coordinated by the Somali National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRI) and international partners, including the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Officials said the operation underscores Somalia’s renewed commitment to assisting its citizens abroad.
Senior government officials, including Abdisalam Abdi Ali, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Abdullahi Aden Abdi, the Deputy Commissioner of the NCRI, were present at the airport to welcome the returnees.
Life for refugees and migrants in Yemen has become increasingly difficult amid the country’s prolonged conflict and humanitarian crisis. Insecurity, economic collapse, and lack of access to basic services have forced many Somalis to seek voluntary repatriation to rebuild their lives at home.
The Somali government and its partners provided the returnees with immediate assistance, including medical screenings, food, and other essential support to help them reconnect with their families and begin the process of reintegration.
Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict for years, leaving many Somalis stranded or detained while attempting to transit through the country en route to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

Friday 10, Oct 2025 {HMC} Somali government has welcomed regional and international efforts that led to the recent agreement between Hamas and Israel, reached in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on Thursday.
The agreement includes key provisions aimed at achieving a ceasefire, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, releasing prisoners and detainees, and resuming political negotiations under international sponsorship.
The ministry reaffirmed Somalia’s steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people — foremost among them, the right to establish an independent and sovereign state.
“This principled stance reflects Somalia’s firm commitment to international legitimacy and to the values of dignity, justice, and peaceful coexistence,” the statement added.
The Federal Republic of Somalia expressed its full support for all efforts and initiatives aimed at protecting human dignity, reinforcing respect for international law, and contributing to a just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian cause.
The war has deepened Israel’s international isolation and reshaped dynamics across the Middle East, drawing in regional actors including Iran, Yemen, and Lebanon. It has also strained U.S.-Israeli relations, with President Donald Trump reportedly pressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a settlement.
Israelis and Palestinians alike celebrated the announcement of the deal — the most significant breakthrough yet in ending the two-year conflict that has claimed more than 67,000 Palestinian lives and aims to secure the release of the remaining hostages seized by Hamas during the attacks that ignited the war.

Friday 10, Oct 2025 {HMC} The Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) has seized several foreign fishing vessels accused of illegally operating off the coast of Puntland, authorities said on Thursday.
The week-long operation was conducted in a coordinated effort across multiple coastal areas. According to a press release from the Puntland Ministry of Finance, three of the seized boats were owned by Yemeni nationals, while a fourth belonged to Iranian citizens. Three additional support boats used for illegal fishing activities were also confiscated.
Two Yemeni-owned boats have already been brought before the Baargaal District Court, which imposed fines and other legal penalties under Puntland’s anti-illegal fishing laws.
Meanwhile, one Yemeni and three Iranian boats, carrying 45 foreign crew members, were transferred to Bosaso, where they will face judicial proceedings.
The Ministry of Finance and the Puntland Tax Enforcement Force issued a stern warning to both Somali and foreign individuals engaged in illegal fishing, vowing to take strong legal action.
Puntland authorities also cautioned that anyone who resists law enforcement or uses armed militias to obstruct maritime operations will be prosecuted under Puntland’s judicial and security laws.
Illegal fishing remains a serious threat to Somalia’s marine resources, depriving local fishermen and coastal communities of livelihoods and revenue.
