Thursday, Abriil 30, 2026 (HMC)Somalia on Wednesday convened intelligence chiefs from member states of the East African Community for a two-day meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and addressing shared security threats across the region.
The meeting, running from April 29–30 in Mogadishu, was inaugurated by Somali National Army Commander Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, who emphasized the importance of coordinated intelligence efforts in tackling evolving challenges.

Participants are reviewing the regional security landscape, including threats posed by militant groups and cross-border instability, while exploring mechanisms to enhance intelligence sharing among member states.
In his opening remarks, Mahmoud highlighted Somalia’s security progress in recent years and outlined ongoing reforms within the Somali National Army aimed at improving operational effectiveness and institutional capacity.
He stressed that closer collaboration among intelligence agencies is critical to maintaining stability in East Africa, where security threats often transcend national borders.
The meeting brings together senior security officials from across the region and is expected to produce recommendations on improving coordination and joint responses to emerging risks.
Somalia has increasingly positioned itself as a regional partner in security cooperation as it continues efforts to consolidate gains against militant groups and strengthen its security institutions.
